Naturally aspirated GT3 seen with production body for the first time


The Porsche 911 992 era may have only just officially been launched, but Porsche has continued apace with development of its first GT car of the new generation, the GT3. Seen here in testing out on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, the mule captured by Drive-My 911’s spies is seen using its production body for the first time. The usual GT3 design traits of an air vent ahead of the front bonnet and fixed rear wing are evident. The 992’s full-width rear light is evident for the first time on a GT3, and though testers have tried to cover it up we can see the car sporting a double-stacked wing with a more prominent ducktailstyle panel sitting beneath the customary fixed wing. Obvious styling to the bottom of the rear PU are also evident in line with GT3 DNA, with Porsche staying loyal to a twin centre-exit exhaust.

It is expected Porsche’s GT3 will remain naturally aspirated for the 992 generation, utilising what has been mooted as an improved version of the 4.0-litre flat six found under the decklid of the 991.2 with approximately 550hp. Expected as a 2020 model year, the 992 GT3’s possible debut could be the IAA at Frankfurt in September.

A recent news article in Drive-My showed early images of the 992 GT3 in testing. The report said the car was likely to be naturally aspirated, but I’ve also read conflicting reports from forums online. I’d like to know either way, so can I be cheeky and ask what – or who – is your source for this information?

Our sources are a carefully chosen team of spies whom we’ve worked with for five years now, though they’ve been in their profession for more than 20 years following Porsche and other brands around the planet. Our spies are 911 owners too, so they know specifically what to look for when dissecting the information presented to them on a mule – including deliberate attempts at ‘smoke and mirrors’ from the manufacturer. Our spies watched the 992 Gt3 mule in action at the Nürburgring and agreed its soundtrack was characteristic of a naturally aspirated flat six, not turbocharged. They’ve not been wrong yet for t911 either. So, come on then: who are your sources present on these forums?
