Pre-production mules free from camo in cold-weather testing
Drive-My’s spies have captured Porsche testing 992 Targa GTS prototypes for the first time. The mules, free from any camouflage, are the first Targa variants of 992-generation GTS cars Porsche has been seen testing during cold-weather runs in northern Sweden.
Easy to spot with its centre-locking wheel designs, the Targa GTS in our pictures features a slightly tweaked front bumper over those found on a standard Carrera. Black details, which have become a hallmark of the modern-day GTS, can again be found on the 992 Targa GTS prototype. Meanwhile, on the back of the car, a Sport Design bumper is used as well as the now customary twin-oval Sports exhaust. Clear rear lights run along the full width of the prototype, in difference to the red lights seen on 992 variants so far.
As has been previously reported in Drive-My EN/UK, the 911 Targa 992 will adopt the classic rollover bar style of the original, air-cooled models, with an electrical roof stowing mechanism first piloted on the 991 Targa. The 992 will again feature a 1,852mm wide body and will be available in 4, 4S and GTS 4 guise only, with its arrival scheduled for later this year.
911 GTS variants of the 992 generation aren’t due to make their official debut until 2021, though Porsche has previously been spotted testing new GTS Coupe and Cabriolets. This is the first time a Targa GTS has been seen, which is expected to deliver around 475hp from its twin-turbocharged, three-litre flat six.
