Marking an historic moment, New York was the setting for the double-bill finalé of the FIA Formula E 2017-2018 championship. The racing was exciting, with cars dropping like flies for a variety of reasons, not least of which the heat during the penultimate race with searing temperatures of 35ºC (in the shade).

Keeping cars cool was the big challenge, aided by dry ice applied liberally over batteries. The final race on Sunday was a different story, with rain postponing Frenchman Jean Éric Vergne’s Drivers’ Championship win, besting Lucas di Grassi and Sam Bird with 198 points. Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler took victory in the Team’s Championship, beating Techeetah by a narrow two point margin.
Notably, the race was the last for the first generation of Formula E race car, ahead of the championship’s move to its second generation car and marks an end to mid-race car swaps, as well as the introduction of new teams.
