The E-Pace is now available with a raft of new updates that will no doubt make it to the rest of the range in the near future.

These include self-learning Smart Settings technology, an Adaptive Dynamics suspension set-up, and a cost-effective and efficient 200PS petrol engine. Jaguar’s self-learning technology, Smart Settings, recalls the driver’s habits and anticipates your needs to make life easier. The car recognises the approaching driver, based on both a key fob and smartphone Bluetooth signal, and will then adjust the seat, climate and infotainment system based on your normal preference.

Over time, algorithms tailor settings based on time, location, weather and behaviour patterns – for example, preheating the steering wheel and seats on a cold day, or changing the media source on a particular day of the week or time of day. Up to eight profiles can be set on the Jaguar E-PACE, making it a great addition for those who share their vehicle with a family member or for cars that are part of a fleet.

There is also an intelligent phone reminder function that will alert you if you have forgotten to come out with your smartphone, while the predictive call list learns patterns of phone use to queue up popular contacts at the appropriate time. Smart Settings comes as part of the Connect Pro Pack, which also contains 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot, Pro Services and Navigation Pro – to offer real-time traffic information, door-to-door routing from your smartphone, street view and parking availability.

Next, Adaptive Dynamics offers improved handling response, body control and ride.

Using continuously variable damper technology with a triple-tube design and externally mounted hydraulic valves, this provides greater scope to tune the balance between handling responses and body control and offers a dedicated off-road setting.

The Adaptive Dynamics suspension set-up update monitors vehicle movements every two milliseconds and calculates the required damping force every ten milliseconds so that the car will respond instantly to either its driver’s inputs or road surface changes, providing greater control and minimising body roll. With rough surfaces and off-road conditions sensed immediately, the damping adapts accordingly. You can select normal or dynamic settings for the Adaptive Dampers through the configurable dynamics menu in the Jaguar drive control system so that in normal mode the focus is on comfort, while the dynamic setting is calibrated to provide increased body control and road holding, enhancing your confidence behind the wheel.

The E-PACE is also available with Jaguar Land Rover’s 200PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged Ingenium petrol engine for the first time (from £33,260). The 200PS model completes the 0-60mph sprint in 7.7 seconds, delivers fuel economy of 34.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 186g/km. The new engine features the same collection of advanced technologies to be found across the rest of the Ingenium engine family, such as twin scroll turbocharger, continuously variable valve lift, and variable cam timing, which work to enhance power and efficiency as well as drivability.
