Working with companies in China – currently the world’s largest EV market – CHAdeMO is working on the development of an ultra-fast 400kW charging standard that could then be used around the world. In a blow for the European-backed Combined Charging Standard (CCS), the China Electricity Council opted for the Japanese-built CHAdeMO standard. The new standard will aim to offer ultra-fast charging for high-capacity, long-range electric vehicle batteries.
China currently uses its own GB/T charge port standard, but this latest move will likely aid reducing the complexity for EV manufacturers adopting multiple standards for different markets.
