It’s the car you need if your commute is four lanes wide and accompanied by a derestricted speed sign. At the new Audi S8’s heart is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 420kW/800Nm, in conjunction with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that allows coasting with the engine switched off.
High-tech new suspension can push down or lift individual wheels to reduce roll during cornering or prepare the suspension for potholes via a front camera. All-wheel steering improves agility, while a sport differential ensures all those kilowatts are sent to the wheels that need them most.
Inside, there’s a tech overload, with up to 38 driver assistance systems. The new S8 lands locally in the second half of 2020 at around $300K.
