Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe We assure you we haven’t just reprinted a photo from page 23 of the September 2018 issue: Mercedes really has confirmed yet another version of the A-Class. It’s the new CLA Coupe, but it looks an awful lot like the A-Class Saloon revealed last summer.
2020 C118 Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe
Compared to the old CLA it has a cleaner design, updated chassis, MBUX infotainment and safety kit worthy of the S-Class W222. The only engine confirmed so far is the C118 CLA250’s 2.0-litre petrol: 221bhp, 258lb ft and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Is this a case of Mercedes’ niche filling going a step too far, or an incredibly shrewd business move to get some of the 750,000 buyers of the previous-generation CLA into the new one? Probably the latter, even if it feels like the former.
NEED TO KNOW
1 What is it? Almost the same car you saw five issues ago
2 Tech specs MBUX, Energising Comfort, front-wheel drive, an identity crisis
3 Aimed at? Pulling the wool over your eyes (if it costs more than the A-Class Saloon)
4 When can I get one? Launches in May
