Following its recent new-model shock announcement, Harley-Davidson has launched its 10th and most expensive Softail offering to date, the FXDR 114 – a drag bike-inspired power cruiser that picks up where the popular Breakout leaves off.

With a rideaway price of $35,495, or $1245 more than the Breakout 114, the FXDR shares a raked-out front end, fat 240-section rear tyre and forward controls with the conceptually similar Breakout. The differences, however, include upside-down forks (as found on the Fat Bob), a 160Nm Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine (up 5Nm), a new air intake and twin front disc brakes.
The FXDR rolls on a 19-inch forged aluminium front wheel (versus the Breakout’s 21-inch item) and a blacked-out 18-inch solid-disc wheel at the rear. Ground clearance is up 25mm over the Breakout (140mm vs 115mm) while the wheelbase is up 40mm (1735 vs 1695mm).
Harley’s Ducati Diavel rival also debuts an aluminium swingarm that’s said to be 4.6kg lighter than the conventional steel item (6.25 vs 10.8kg, or 43% less) found across the other nine Softail models.
The FXDR also has an aluminium subframe for the seat and tail section instead of steel and lighter mudguards for a weight saving of 3.2kg. Wet weight is a claimed 303kg. Other features include LED lighting, a keyless ignition, a digital gauge in the ’bar clamp and a solo seat sitting 720mm high.
