After a washout 2017 for electric vehicles at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) in Colorado, Volkswagen has revealed its plan to take on the 4,300 metre mountain with a new prototype, purpose-built all-wheel drive race car.
The car is slated to be ready for action on 24 June 2018, with its goal to “set a new record for electric cars”. Volkswagen said the new motorsport project is part of the company’s transformation into “the leading producer of electric vehicles”. By 2025, the Volkswagen brand says it will offer 23 all-electric models.
