    / #2017 / New #Volkswagen-Golf-GTi / #Volkswagen-Golf / #Volkswagen / #Volkswagen-Golf-VII / #Volkswagen-Golf-GTi-VII / #Volkswagen-Golf-Typ-5G /

Trust us, this is the new Golf GTI. The 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine gets a power hike from 217bhp to 227bhp, equalling that of the outgoing Performance Pack model, while the new Performance Pack model produces 241bhp.

The six-speed manual gearbox is retained and the ageing six-speed #DSG option will eventually (though not initially) be replaced with a new seven-speed dual-clutch unit. Other changes include new front and rear bumpers inspired by the previous generation Clubsport model and LED headlights and tail lights.

    STOP PRESS: UPDATED BEETLE REVEALED

    / #VW-Beetle / #Volkswagen-Beetle / #Volkswagen / #VW / #2016

Just as we were preparing to go to press, we uncovered the first photograph depicting the facelifted edition of the Volkswagen Beetle. Changes include redesigned bumpers with a ventilation slot, as well as smoked LED rear lights and new choices for the alloy wheel designs. On the inside there’s brighter illumination for the instrument panel, together with a fresh design for the dials and upholstery. Beetle Sport models are renamed to become R-Line editions, and there’s a new Denim special edition version for the German market. It’s too early to say whether the UK market will get all of the new models, and whether prices will rise as a result of the enhancements. As before, there’s a choice of a pair of 2.0-litre #TDI engines developing 109 or 148bhp. First deliveries of the new VW Beetle are expected this summer.

    V6 POWER BOOST FOR NEW AMAROK / #Volkswagen-Amarok / #VW-Amarok / #Volkswagen / #VW / #2016 / #VAG / #Volkswagen-Amarok-V6 /

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the latest Amarok, and announced that its four-cylinder engines will be ditched in favour of punchier #V6 units. Offered in a choice of three power outputs, the 3.0-litre #TDI engine develops 161, 201 or 221bhp and is currently the only pickup to be offered in the UK with a sixcylinder engine. Paired to either a sixspeed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, the most powerful unit produces CO2 emissions of 199g/km and is capable of 37mpg on the combined cycle. As before, there will be the option of selectable or permanent #4Motion four-wheel-drive.

As well as a re-profiled exterior, including larger alloy wheels, other big changes affect the interior, where it has been shifted upmarket. The dashboard and instrument panel has been redesigned, and there’s new ergonomically designed front seats to give a more sophisticated and upmarket appearance. New technology extends to a revised infotainment system and an automated parking system. The latest Amarok will go on sale towards the end of this year when prices and final specifications will be announced for the UK market.
