Delfont's Lancia back in limelight. This #Lancia #Flavia #Vignale has been disinterred after 37 years’ storage in a garage and is said to have had a celebrity past. Julian Taylor, who is embarking on a full restoration of the car, said: “I am led to believe that it was originally the property of #Bernard-Delfont - later Lord Delfont - the theatre impresario and film producer.

“This would not be beyond the imagination because they were unusual and expensive cars at the time,£2500 in #1963 was more than some houses. My friend Edward Checkley owns the one that #Martin-Buckley referred to in his June column; his was owned by Sir Basil Spence, the architect.” Taylor added that the car came with its optional hardtop and is currently stripped. He expects to have it back on the road by the end of the year: “The only things of interest I found when it was being dismantled were some French Francs under the seat plus a head- and-shoulders drawing of a woman on the foam seat-back beneath the vinyl. It is obviously a trimmer’s doodle done during a quiet moment when the car was new. It’s actually pretty good, so I’m having it replicated and it’s going to go next to the numberplate on the back of the car; that seems right.”

The #Lancia-Flavia has been reallocated its original numberplate-4GXK - but attempts to track down previous owners have failed due to the lack of records. It is believed they are among many that were lost when the Greater London Authority, where the car was first registered, transferred its archive to Swansea.
So Taylor is keen to trace any of its history; if you can help.

Delightful right-hand-drive #Vignale-Flavia is basically sound and is shown reunited with its original registration plate.

Price watch #Lancia #Fulvia Sport. The Sport 1600 is worth more than the 1300 variant, but engine parts are more scarce. All-alloy examples are so rare in the UK that it is difficult to give a value, but they could easily surpass the Sport 1600.
The striking Sport is no longer the stand-out model when it comes to #Fulvia values. Roderick Young (lanciamotorclub. co. uk) says: “For many years, prices remained stagnant. The Sport possibly had a slight premium over the coupe, but in the past year the #1600HF has crept ahead."

Young adds: “Prices have continued to climb, particularly so in the past two years. An excellent Sport 1600 is now worth about £20-25,000.

A good, usable example is £15-18,000. and a runner with perhaps some incorrect or missing fittings about £10,000. A car for restoration might fetch £5-6000 dependent upon the full extent of rebuild required. A number of UK specialists offer repair sections, but there are no major suppliers of outer body panels for the #Zagato ."

Sadly, poor rust-proofing and electrolytic reaction has hastened the disappearance of many Sports. “For the Sport 1300, whether S1 or S2, values are slightly less," says Young, “maybe £15-18,000 for concours, £10-13,000 in the middle and £2-4000 at the bottom end. #All-alloy examples are so rare in the UK that it is difficult to give accurate values, but they could easily surpass those of a Sport 1600. Likewise, the Competizione cars are in a league of their own.''

One thing to consider is engine parts availability. The 1300 unit is better catered for in this regard. Young says: “Even a scrap 1600 unit can be worth £2-4000. A full 1584cc rebuild can cost in the region of £5000."

    CLASSIFIEDS

#1972 Lancia #Fulvia-Sport £12,995 The colour scheme won't be to all tastes, but its status as a right- hand-drive S2 1600 makes it something of a rarity 07794 576886 (t).

#1967 #Lancia-Fulvia-Sport £15,000 Although the smaller-engined variant, this car currently on sale in France has just two owners from new and has covered only 78,000km 00334 7467 1940(p).
