IT MAKES SENSE that one of the most attention-grabbing cars on the road would be available as a drop-top. The Mustang has always had a strong image as a convertible, and Australia’s weather is mostly sunshine and warm air, but the Mustang’s trick new exhaust demands full attention. Because of this, if the weather’s good, you’ll want the roof down.
WHAT’S NOT to like about excess? That’s certainly the vibe Mustang Motorsport (MM) was going for when selecting how to tune this grand-touringfocused Mustang. And with polished, cast-aluminium wheels and a baritone-esque soundtrack, this version of Roush’s RS3 hits the spot. Your $107,009 (including the price of a previous-gen six-speed auto Mustang GT) gets you a Stage 3 2.3-litre supercharger in Phase 1 guise.

Ford is sounding the call once again with a new for 2020 High Performance Package for EcoBoost 2.3-litre models. Rated at 330 horsepower and 350ft-lb of torque, it’s based on the motor used in the Focus RS.

St Patrick’s day, which occurred on March 17 this year, is a big deal Stateside, where throngs of people celebrate Irish heritage and pay homage to everything green. Some car models have proved to be so popular over the years, they’ve clocked up some mightily impressive anniversaries. The original Land Rover Defender might be one that a lot of people would assume to be one of the longest-runners, although its 33-year span pales in comparison to the Citroën 2CV (42 years) and Hindustan Ambassador (49 years). But as with so many things, Ford has deftly climbed to the top of this particular tree: the original Mustang debuted a staggering 55 years ago, which means that there’s much to celebrate in 2019.

America’s best-selling sports car has just produced its 10 millionth model, which is an impressive achievement. The 10 millionth model is the 460hp 2019 GT V8 six-speed version, painted in Wimbledon White. Why that colour? The first serialised Mustang (VIN 001), produced back in 1964, was the same colour, although that model had ‘only’ 164bhp and a three-speed gearbox. The ten millionth model was built at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan and to celebrate, workers enjoyed a flyover from three World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighters.
