Porsche says NEC absence not down to emissions scandal

The parent company is currently reviewing costs and looking to save money in order to foot the bill for several different global emissions scandals, with costs expected to run beyond £23 billion. CCW understands VW Group in the UK has already pulled some advertising deals and the company’s global boss Matthias Müller, said: ‘Anything that is not absolutely necessary will be cancelled or postponed. And that’s why we will be intensifying our efficiency programme. To be clear: this will not be painless.’ A spokesman for Porsche told CCW the company is an enthusiastic supporter of classic car events and it likes to be involved in as many as it can. He said: ‘We try to take an even-handed approach in our involvement. Inevitably, the level of support for each event varies, depending on our commitments over the course of the year.’

Porsche had a big presence at last year’s NEC Classic Motor Show (above), launching the Porsche GB Restoration Competition and celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 911 Turbo. The spokesman said: ‘We look forward to returning to the NEC show in the future.’
