The 1993 prototype was designed off of the back of the success of the 155 in touring car racing across Europe, and was intended to be the first of a limited run of Abarth-built Alfa Romeos to compete with the BMW М3 E30 and Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5 16v W201.
