Official details of the new 2019 BMW 330e G20 plug-in hybrid have emerged. The electrified saloon is claimed to be 30% faster and 10% more efficient than its predecessor and have 50% more electric range. The 330e will go on sale in July next year (USA 2019).
It’s powered by a 181bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine mated to a 111bhp electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, and a 12kWh battery. The set-up delivers a combined output of 249bhp and 310lb ft of torque. An XtraBoost mode draws additional power from the battery for short bursts, resulting in a 0-62mph time of 6.0sec. The top speed is 143mph and the 330e can travel up to 68mph on electric power alone. The electriconly range is now 37 miles.
Combined economy is quoted at 138mpg, with CO2 emissions rated at 39g/km. The 330e will be available in SE, Sport Line and M Sport versions. Pre-heating and pre-conditioning is now standard on all models and new digital services give information about public charging stations and surrounding attractions. UK pricing is expected to start from $38,000.
