This retro-liveried version of the track-only P1 GTR is a one-off project by McLaren Special Operations to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first of Ayrton Senna’s three Formula 1 titles. Inside and out there are references to the 1988 MP4/4, most obviously the red and white of then-sponsor Marlboro; Senna’s 1988 race number 12 is on the nose.
Senna-tribute McLaren
MSO spent three years on the project, working closely with the owner – a McLaren collector and Ayrton Senna enthusiast.
There’s a small increase in power from the 986bhp 3.8-litre V8 hybrid engine, which gains a 24ct gold heatshield and modified engine bay shrouds. The P1’s already extreme aero surfaces have been modded for more downforce. Inside, the lightweight race seats are from the McLaren Senna.
