Two distinctly sporty models enter Porsche's mid-engined product range

Powered by the same four-litre six-cylinder boxer engine used to great effect in the recently released 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4, a duo of new two-seaters have been added to the 718 line-up: introducing the 718 Cayman GTS 982C and 718 Boxster GTS 982.

When combined with the welcome addition of a manual six-speed gearbox and a sports exhaust system, the new GTS pairing can fly to 62mph from rest in 4.5 seconds, continuing all the way to a top speed of 182mph. Thanks to standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports damping, as well as a 20mm lower ride height and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical limitedslip rear differential, this new generation of GTS achieves a remarkable balancing act between dynamic handling and everyday comfort. The standard Sport Chrono package with its upgraded Porsche Track Precision App also emphasises the athletic character of these exciting mid-engine sports cars. Black contrasting design elements and a dark Alcantara interior create highlights typical of Porsche's recent (and understandably popular) GTS models.

POWER GAMES

As with the 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4, the powerful four-litre engine is characterised by exceptional efficiency. Adaptive cylinder control (alternatively switching off one of the two cylinder banks at low loads), direct fuel injection with piezo injectors and a variable intake system also contribute to the car’s efficiency. Additionally, the GTS engine impresses with its superior power reserves and immediate response characteristics — the flat-six effortlessly revs to 7,800rpm and enjoys the acoustic advantages of the engine type's sound. The 718 GTS models also adopt the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4's twin tailpipe sports exhaust system. With its saddle-type design, this performance pipework creates space for the contrasting black rear lower section that was specially developed for the 718 GTS models.

With exceptionally precise handling (one of the supremely balanced mid-engined layout's key selling points), agile steering and responsive cornering, the chassis promises an exciting driving experience. In addition to the previously mentioned Sport Chrono kit, PASM and PTV, standard equipment includes Porsche Active Drivetrain Mounts (PADM) and Porsche Stability Management (PSM) with a selectable Sport mode.

These magnificent mid-engine sports cars are fitted with twenty-inch lightweight wheels finished in Satin-Gloss Black. High-performance tyres (235/35 ZR 20 at the front and 265/35 ZR 20 at the rear) surround the enhanced brake system, which features cross-drilled discs and red calipers. The Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) package is available as a cost option.

Dark, contrasting details reflect the sporty status of the 718 GTS cars. A black accent is applied to the spoiler lip, the air intake of the Sport Design front apron, the front fog light lenses, the rear light lenses and the redesigned lower rear bumper.

ALL THE TRIMMINGS

In the interior, the dark Alcantara creates a sporty, elegant ambience. This luxurious synthetic textile is used to cover the centre panels of the standard Sport Seats Plus, as well as the steering wheel rim, centre console, gear lever and armrests on both doors. In the 718 Cayman GTS, it also covers the A-pillars and the roof lining. The optional GTS interior package adds another colour: the choice here is between Carmine Red or Chalk. This accentuates the rev counter, seat belts and all decorative seams (including the embroidered GTS emblem in the headrests and the Porsche lettering on the floor mats) with black borders. Main trim elements, as well as the centre console surrounds, are manufactured from genuine carbon-fibre.

Both 718 GTS models come as standard with Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and a high-resolution seven-inch touchscreen. The Sport Chrono smartphone app, developed in Porsche motorsport environments, provides drivers with real-time performance-related data on the PCM display, enabling recorded engine and driving behaviour for later analysis. There's also an option of an online navigation module with real-time traffic information, voice control and Porsche Connect, as well as BOSE or Burmester surround sound.

Order books are now open, with the first deliveries expected in March. A 718 Cayman GTS costs from £64,088, while a 718 Boxster wearing the same three letters will start from £65.949. Both prices include VAT.
