Range extender McLaren 600LT is longer, quicker and lighter. McLaren’s ability to tease out new variations of the same architecture notches up another success with the new 600LT. It’s a more powerful, slightly-aft extended and trackday-focused development of everyone’s favourite real-world McLaren, the 570S. The new car is the fourth McLaren with an elongated rump, in this case a 74mm extension (less than 3in); it follows closed and open versions of the 675LT and the racing GTR version of the McLaren F1 – whose tail was properly long.

Longer, lighter and packing more punch than the 570S upon which it’s based, the 600LT has become the new halo model in McLaren’s Sport Series range and the fourth chapter in the company’s Long Tail story.

  • First McLaren Senna Road Trip

First Customer McLaren Senna Takes 870-Mile Road Trip Right After Delivery

It is often the case with some of these new hypercars that they get announced, displayed at glitzy motor shows or prestigious events and then disappear into the clutches of wealthy investors, and us mere mortals being lucky if we ever see them again. It’s refreshing, therefore, to hear that the first production McLaren Senna, chassis number 001, bought by London businessman David Kyte, was taken by the owner on a road trip to Circuit Paul Ricard. This exclusive 1400km journey was something of a McLaren convoy, as joining David were three more company Sennas (for the international launch) a McLaren 720S and a McLaren 600LT. Included in the driver line-up was Ayrton Senna’s nephew (and McLaren brand ambassador) Bruno Senna.

How about a Le Mans McLaren?

Even after the last Speedtail rolls out of Woking at the end of next year, Mike Flewitt is not yet done with central driving positions. He said: “Three seats can’t go more mainstream because the safety legislation is complex. This means, for instance, customers in North America have to privately import in their cars. But I’d love to see that centre seat idea in a pure track car, like a GTR. It’s so great to drive, we can do it, so why not?”
