London ULEZ confirmed for 2019 launch

It’s official. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Kahn, has confirmed that the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will come into force on 8 April 2019 – more than a year earlier than originally planned.

The scheme is set to replace the newly introduced T-Charge – a new tax on higher polluting diesel vehicles entering certain areas of London, however, it is still unclear whether the new ULEZ will be expanded to include the North and South Circular roads ahead of their scheduled date of 2021. Transport emissions are expected to fall by up to 20% as a result of the zone and up to 50% of HGV NOx emissions. Euro 6 diesel cars, Euro 4 petrol cars and Euro 3 motorbikes will serve as the minimum requirements for entry into the zone.
