To actually exist in such an era, you’d need to go back to 1974 in your hastily constructed time machine and enjoy watching Nixon squirm through impeachment in the wake of Watergate.

    ‘No-Deal’ and classic parts

Regardless of your personal politics, as the threat of a ‘no-deal’ Brexit looks increasingly possible the need to make contingency plans is being felt in all sectors of the economy. The automotive industry is perhaps one of the most deeply affected by a possible no-deal scenario and various high-profile announcements have already been made by the bigger players: after 107 years, Ford is threatening to review its entire presence in the UK, while Nissan has delayed pay talks and BMW is resigned to a month’s closure of the Cowley MINI plant following the UK’s departure from the EU, all in the interests of maintaining its supply chain.

    2017 BMW 125i Sedan Sport Line F52 - front-wheel drive 1 Series for China

Front-wheel drive 1 Series… but only for China. It might look like a booted 1 Series but BMW’s 1 Series Sedan that will be sold exclusively in China actually utilises the front-wheel drive UKL platform as seen on machinery such as the 2 Series Active Tourer, the new X1, and, of course, the MINI.

  • 2017 BMW 4-Series face-lift F32/F33/F36 and M4 F82

    2017 BMW 4-Series face-lift F32/F33/F36

BMW 4-Series face-lift announced. Since its debut in June 2013 when the 4 Series took over the mantle from the 3 Series Coupé BMW has sold an impressive 400,000 examples of the Coupé, Convertible and Gran Coupé with the USA being the model’s largest market, accounting for almost a third of all sales. Surprisingly the UK is ahead of Germany in terms of sales figures and is the 4 Series’ second largest market and it’s also perhaps something of a surprise to note that worldwide the 4 Series Gran Coupé accounts for 50 percent of all sales with the Coupé and Convertible both garnering 25 percent.

2017 BMW 5 Series Touring G31 breaks cover

Hot on the heels of the new 5 Series Saloon comes its Touring sibling and from these first images it looks like BMW has another winner on its hands as the five-door looks even better than its four-door stable mate. The UK model line up will feature two petrol and two diesel engines and like its Saloon counterpart two trim levels will be offered – SE and M Sport. Kicking off the range is the 520d SE with an on-the-road price of £38,385 and it will be powered by the familiar 190hp four-cylinder diesel. Performance stats are a 0-62mph time of 7.8 seconds and economy and emissions figures of 65.6mpg and 114g/km respectively but unlike the Saloon there will be no 520d EfficientDynamics or xDrive models at the start of production. The second diesel model is the 530d and this will be offered in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive guises in both SE and M Sport trim. It develops 265hp and has 0-62mph times of 5.8 seconds (RWD) and 5.6 seconds (xDrive) with economy ranging from 56.4 for the rear-drive and 51.3 for the four-wheel drive versions. 530d prices start at £46,235 for the RWD SE and rise to £51,535 for a M Sport xDrive.
