Mercedes-Benz SL R129 era

The 190SL may not have the true sports car feel of its 300SL stablemate, but a more charming roadster of the era is hard to think of. But of course every SL generation is very different, so each has it own special appeal.

We also spend time on the 123-series estate, a fine modern classic that has, suddenly, become quite rare, with good ones remaining but hard to find. I was fascinated to learn that it almost didn’t come to the UK because Mercedes thought it would be too expensive to build in right-hand drive. But it did, and 123 expert Mark Cosovich explains why.

I hope you like all this, and I’ll see you in the next issue, out August 1.
