2019 Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign Concept. This GT-R Nismo-based concept celebrates the 50th anniversaries of both the GT-R and Italdesign, but there’s more than meets the eye here.
GOLDEN LINING
Concept dream and production reality; the GT-R50 and 600LT share a golden vein.
RACE-BRED BRAWN
Beneath its shapely shell lies a hand-assembled version of the firm’s 3,8-litre VR38DETT V6 turbo-petrol engine drawing on engineering know-how from Nissan’s participation in GT3 racing. Modifications such as GT3 competition-spec turbos, increased capacities for both air filters and fuel injection help extract 530 kW and 780 N.m.
FOUR ON THE FLOOR
As in the Nismo GT-R, the GT-R50 utilises a high-performance AWD system that, allied with a reinforced six-speed dual-clutch transmission and stronger differentials and drivelines, sends drive to all four corners.
STOP AND SHOCK
A mighty braking system comprising six-piston front and four-piston rear Brembos are tasked with bringing the whole shooting match to a halt, while a bespoke Bilstein Damp- Tronic suspension setup continually adjusts to road surface conditions.
THE MILLION-DOLLAR QUESTION
According the Nissan, this first collaboration between the Japanese auto giant and famed design agency Italdesign isn’t a showcase for the next GT-R but rather an expression of a Nissan sportscar “built without limits”. It has, however, emerged that a groundswell in consumer interest has brought Nissan around to seriously consider a limited production run, albeit with the potential asking price of $1,0 million (±R13,0 million) a pop.
