It’s been two years since we last had a BMW Z4 model available but the brand new 2019 BMW G29 Z4 has been unveiled and it’s certainly eye-catching. While the looks won’t be to all tastes there’s plenty that will be and lots to talk about besides the styling. For starters, BMW has dropped the folding metal hardtop of the E89 generation car in favour of a soft-top, presumably to save weight, and then there’s the very generous standard equipment line-up which includes leather, LED headlights, eight-speed auto gearbox and M Sports seats. There are three models to choose from: the sDrive 20i, sDrive 30i – both of which deliver impressive performance – and the one we’re really interested in, the M40i.
NEW BMW Z4 M40i G29 FIRST EDITION
This is equipped with the single-turbo BMW B58 straight-six making 340hp and 369lb ft of torque, enough for a 0-62mph time of just 4.6 seconds. As standard, the Z4M40i comes equipped with Adaptive M Sport suspension, M Sport brakes and an M Sport diff, all of which combine to deliver a seriously sporty driving experience. Prices should have been announced by the time you read this and the new Z4goes on sale in AU/NZ next March.
